Bio: Vic Harkness is a security consultant at Accenture who has been in the cyber security field for 10 years, working in both offensive and defensive security roles. She holds degrees in Robotics & AI, and in Cyber Security. She is currently working towards a degree in Folklore for midlife crisis reasons, writing her dissertation on contemporary folk heroes in Ukraine.
Talk Abstract
Synopsis: In this session, we will go over the foundations of using Burp Suite for penetration testing. This session is best suited to people who either wish to learn the web testing skills needed to enter the penetration testing field, or who are just starting out in their security careers and wish to upskill. Whilst basic familiarity with how websites work is helpful, this talk will aim to cover the basic conceptual knowledge needed to make use of Burp Suite.
The session will cover how to set up Burp Suite, the foundational functionality of the tool, and the types of vulnerabilities it can be used to exploit. Demonstrations will be done using the OWASP Juice Shop.
