Talk Abstract

Robotic systems are moving rapidly toward deployment in real environments across health, social care, logistics, and local government. Yet security testing for robots remains immature: there is no recognised standard, few practitioners have hands on experience with cyber physical attack surfaces, and existing pen testing methodologies do not fully translate to autonomous, sensor driven systems. This talk shares an early stage initiative, developed in collaboration with the National Robotarium, to create a professional ecosystem for robotic security testing – one that expands the skillset of today’s penetration testers while opening a structured pathway for newcomers entering the field. We will outline the conceptual foundations of a curriculum and accreditation model. Rather than presenting a finished product, this session will offer a transparent look at the work in progress: the competencies we believe should be taught, the challenges of defining “good practice” in robot testing, and how the community can help shape a scalable, credible, and industry aligned approach.
