Emergency Dice*

*because “Emergency Die” just sounds wrong – sue me.

In keeping with this year’s theme of ‘Game On’ BSides Leeds has some our usual unusual swag.

There are a selection of credit card size (ish) emergency dice cards that you’ll be able to collect during the day.

With luck there will be plenty of D6 (‘normal’ die) and then a selection of D4, D8 and D10 (sorry, not D12 or D20, they just weren’t possible to reliably produce and we hate waste here!).

There are a few things you might need to know to build the dice (but remember they are for emergency gaming sessions, please don’t feel that you need to make them immediately, stick them in your wallet or in your phone case for when the bug hits you).

Be gentle bending these or they will snap

  • 1. Carefully remove each piece from the frame.
  • 2. Gently bend the faces of the pieces slightly inward (too hard and they will snap).
  • then…
    For D4;
  • 3. Move both pieces into each other and first connect one side and then the other, making sure the numbers in the corners align (each corner should have the same number).
    And there you have your new D4!

  • For D6;
    3. Connect the 1-face aligned to the 2-face.
  • 4. Connect the 6-face aligned to the 5-face
  • Opposite sides should sum to 7
    And there you have your new d6!

  • For D8;
  • 3. Flatten the pieces and connect the 4-face to the 1-face & then go around connecting the other faces.
    Opposite sides should sum to 9
  • And there you have your new d8!

  • For D10;
  • 3. Connect the 1-face to the 2-face so the 1-face will connect to the 2- & 6-face.
  • 4. Subsequently push the 6-face into place, then the 3-face and so on, alternating between the faces of the upper and lower part.
    And there you have your new D10!
